Upcoming M4 Mac Models
Well, regarding this matter, the Power On newsletter by Mark Gurman reported that Apple will be launching new Mac models with the M4 chip this 2023. These are in aspects like the MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac. Yet, MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro will get their M4 upgrade in 2025.
What’s New for the MacBook Pro and iMac
Apple firm last updated MacBook Pro and iMac in October this year, adding the M3 chip. The MacBook Pro received a new Space Black color and an entry-level model at a lower price; the 24-inch iMac retained the same design but still used only Lightning cables instead of switching to USB-C.
The upcoming M4 update should also introduce the new M4 chip to these models. Specifically, the M4 chip has debuted in the iPad Pro earlier this year. For the Mac accessories, it is quite expected that the new 24-inch iMac will include USB-C accessories in the packaging.
Mac Mini and Potential Design Changes
First‐up, Apple has the Mac mini which had the last update in January 2023 with M2 Pro chip; it is also expected to have update this fall. For instance, the Mac mini did not receive the M3 series so the future release will be the chip’s first time in the series with the M4.
Another interesting fact from Gurman’s newsletter is that there could be an even more drastic redesign for at least one of the Macs. The Mac Pro and Mac mini models have not been updated when it comes to their designs in years.
The Mac Pro hitherto updated in the year 2022 repurposed the design from the 2019 Mac pro which is not well-suited for the new Apple Silicon. Likewise, there has not been significant changes in the physical looks of Mac mini since the year 2010.
Looking Ahead
In the case of the M4 upgrade, the improvement will mainly be noticeable in speed, although Apple can launch a new form for one of these models. Since Apple is expected to launch a new MacBook Pro design sometime next year, this might be among the Mac computers to be launched with a brand new look.
